I just bought this Raketa. Yes, I know it isn’t as cool as a Big Zero, but it does have a good look. I don’t actually know much about it, not even the model name. Anything y’all can tell me about it? Oh, also, I’m off to Belize for a week so I won’t be around much.

Raketa means rocket in Serbian and Russian. the lower case lettering means “made in Russia”, I think. they seem to be a very russo-patriotic watch company. cool watch though!

Old Russian, possibly even Soviet era. You’d have to check the serial number (which could possibly be inside) to get full details on the watch.

Is there an image of the back?

Hmm, so that would mean it was made post-’91 then eh?

I’m not as familiar with Raketa’s so what I can tell you, you probably already know:

Russian, they are fairly common, been around since the 60’s, a lot of people swear they are the most durable mechanical movements out there, they look cool and will last but will not be an investment by any means.

Having said that, I like your choice.

Ha! Very Soviet style...functional with no real artistic styling wasted. So the back of the watch is basically stamped metal.

From what I know of the brand, which isn’t much, I believe they are pretty common (ie..not collectable).

I would be careful getting it wet. And depending on how much you paid or willing to invest, get it cleaned (this means internal guts). A cleaning can cost upwards of $200 in some cases which may be more than most are willing to spend.

Oh yeah, I know they aren’t collectable but I do love their character. I only paid $40 for it and it comes with a band and it’s guaranteed to function perfectly*

*as perfect as soviet era watches could haha

Yeah I wasn’t looking for an investment, I just wanted a cool cheap watch.

I feel like this is the watch you’d wear in fallout 4. I had no idea these existed, thanks for sending me down a/an Wikipedia/eBay rabbit hole. Personally that one > big zero.

Then I think you’ve succeeded. It is really neat.

It’s dangerous too because you can get a mint Raketa in basically any style you like for less than $100. And who doesn’t like the weird factor of having a watch built in the Soviet Union.

possibly. I’d say so because of the made in Russia. I guess it'd say USSR if it were pre '91
